The past few years saw a very slow change in trends. The slow pace of production and shipping caused delays and some of the styles from 2019 spilled into 2020 and 2021. After the processes have started and returned to normal, styles have shown some changes again.
The styles that should be avoided
Some of the fabrics that got wildly famous during the lockdown are the nubby fabric. From cushion covers to rugs, they were used in every kind of style. These are dwindling down and slowly getting phased out. Along with this the fleece-lined rugs and other upholstery with the sherpa material are going out of fashion. If you are going for large pieces of furniture like a wardrobe, then it’s time you look for something functional than ostentatious. The carved furniture styles are trickling out of the market.
Natural materials to stick to this year
If you are buying furniture that has upholstery, then you can think of getting furniture with natural fabrics like cotton, jute, and wool. The natural fabrics and textures are timeless classics and never go out of fashion. Most interior designers embrace the use of natural materials irrespective of the season and year. Rattan, cane, and bamboo have really made a strong comeback and they seem to be here to stay for a while. The natural materials that have made a difference are favoring a return to more streamlined, classic furniture silhouettes in 2023 and for many more years to come.
Trending styles to watch out for in the year 2023
The popular concept of trends and styles is slowly going out of the window and more people are looking to design their homes according to their taste and comfort. The personal expression in their own space was fueled by the constant enclosure of people in their houses. It compelled people to take a long and hard look at what they really need and want in their houses. The minimalistic and maximalist styles have gotten a pleasant makeover too. Most people have realized a need for a dedicated space for things like a study table, dressing table, or dining table. This helps compartmentalize the spaces in the house.
Here are some concepts of personal expression we may see in the coming year.
Luxurious approach
Luxury is relative and when you say luxury living, it does not necessarily mean expensive. The concept of luxury living revolves around evergreen furniture and adding sophistication along with some elegance to the décor. Luxury is not tangible however it may look like plush cushions, sofas, and calming accents.
The dark shade rises
After a long stint of the neutral colours doing their part on walls and in bedding too, there is an awaited return of the dark colours. The bottle green, royal blue, the regal purple are some of the colours you will see around this season. The darker panels of wood on walls or darker wood furniture are also looking good to go this year. These rich jewel tones may be paired with earth tones to bring out the true depth of the colour.
Natural finish
Although the stone finish is making its presence felt in the interior decorator markets, wood is not far behind. The raw and natural finishes in the living room may be the first step towards a farmhouse style that is here to stay in 2023 as well. Other elements include travertine, marble, exotic granite, soapstone, limestone, and so on.
The trends of 2023 are just beginning to unfold. Let us wait and watch for the rest!
